Wholly Follow the Lord (VCL)
December 28, 2024
Joshua 14:14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel.
Holy Spirit, illumine my heart! Caleb wholly followed the Lord, and he wholly drove out the enemy.
"Give me the hill country about which the Lord spoke back on that day." Caleb valued the promise that God had given him through Moses. Those who live by faith value that which God's promise gives far above what is provided by his providence only. Caleb did not fear the enemy. Hebron, the promised mountain, was settled on Caleb and his heirs because he followed the Lord God of Israel. Happy are we if we follow Him.
Numbers 14:8 If the Lord delight in us, then He will bring us into the land.
If the Lord has brought you through the wilderness this far (remember now His grace and mercy over the years), know that the Lord delights in you. "Therefore, we are able to overcome"
The land of blessing is inherited only by faith and obedience.
Romans 4:20-21 (Abraham) did not doubt God's promise out of a lack of faith. Instead, his faith became stronger, and he gave glory to God, being absolutely convinced that God would do what He had promised. This is why "it was credited to him as righteousness."
My journey may be dark or lonely, but God loves me. I know the reward will be mine; I will inherit the promise through faith and patience. My faith does waver sometimes, and I shrink from the battle of life. I am not continually alert to the enemy and don't always look to Jesus. I have been discouraged in my struggle to go on with God and have been tempted to complain. Yet, I am a sinner saved by grace!
I will catch a glimpse of Jesus now. I will look back and remember the pit from which I was saved, look back at the peace that came into my life, and remind my heart that my faith is founded on the conviction that "God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son" (John 3:16)
Catch a glimpse of the reward of obedience, sufficient to keep you true for all the rest of your life and which will bring you to the place that God has promised you. Have faith like Caleb based on an unshakeable conviction that the Lord delights in you. Does He delight in you? Look back at Calvary's cross. Indeed, God has shown His love toward us beyond all doubt in that "while were were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
2 Corinthians 4:16 This is why I am not discouraged. No, even if outwardly we are wearing out, inwardly we are being renewed each and every day.
