The Patience of Job

The Patience of Job

October 11, 2024

James 5:10-11  As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.  We consider those who endured to be blessed.  You have heard about Job’s endurance and have seen the purpose of the Lord that the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

I count my time as long because I measure it by my own time.  All time is as nothing to God.  It is as a moment.

I will serve God and bear my trials as one who believes the end will crown all.

My eternal happiness is safe if I trust it to Him.  All else is vanity which soon will be done with forever.

God’s 77 Questions

On Creation and Providence – Job 38-41

Job 42:2  Job replied to the Lord, “I know that You can do anything and nothing that You plan is impossible.”

We may think God has forgotten us in the thick of storms and the heat of fiery trials.  We may not understand why God allows certain things in our lives or the lives of others, but we don’t have to understand.  God knows what He is doing.

The Vexing Problem of Human Suffering

Look to Creation – the mighty message from heaven that focuses exclusively on the creation of all things by God and then His providential care of His creation.  This deepens our understanding of His power, His wisdom, His purpose, and His love.  The God of all grace (1 Peter 5:10) and God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 2:13) is not indifferent to the hurts and pain of His beloved and faithful servants.

Recognize and affirm god’s right as Creator to do what He will with His creation.

Genesis 18:25  The Judge of all the earth will do what is right.
