Muslim Nation or Not?

I understand that there are many ways to spin Obama’s statements, but the fact that he said that we are *not* a Christian nation in the past made me very concerned when I [thought] I heard him say we were a Muslim Nation this week before his Cairo Speech. Not willing to let it go I’ve been keeping my eye out for insight into his words. Here’s one view from Jake Tapper:

Sean Hannity discussed this issue with Juan Williams and Kimberly Guilfoyle. Guilfoyle sums it up best for me by saying this statement is reckless, political pandering and that the President should not say things like this:

Maybe we’re all trying too hard to understand and analyze Obama’s words. I mean words are just words… it’s the actions that come from the words that must be observed. I guess that’s why I was *really* concerned when I read the following:
Statement of Attorney General Eric Holder on Department of Justice’s Outreach and Enforcement Efforts to Protect American Muslims

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder released the following statement relating to President Obama’s historic speech today in Cairo, Egypt:

“The President’s pledge for a new beginning between the United States and the Muslim community takes root here in the Justice Department where we are committed to using criminal and civil rights laws to protect Muslim Americans. A top priority of this Justice Department is a return to robust civil rights enforcement and outreach in defending religious freedoms and other fundamental rights of all of our fellow citizens in the workplace, in the housing market, in our schools and in the voting booth.

“There are those who will continue to want to divide by fear - to pit our national security against our civil liberties - but that is a false choice. We have a solemn responsibility to protect our people while we also protect our principles.”

“A top priority of this Justice Department is a return to robust civil rights enforcement” — as if civil rights were trampled from 2001 to 2009.

Protect Muslim Americans from what?

This week Pvt. William Long was assassinated by a Muslim jihadist convert - - here in our own country! This statement from the Justice Department is either really bad timing or … I can’t comprehend it. Pvt. Long was serving his country in uniform when he was killed by a Muslim terrorist on American soil. He was prepared to fight for his country on the battlefield, but his father pointed out, he didn’t know that the battlefield was here.

Mike Pence Responds to Obama’s Speech in Cairo - Video

“I think first and foremost the people of the United States stand with Israel. I think we support a Middle East peace process so long as we begin to see Palestinians follow that historic road map, disarm terrorists within their midst, and those are things we haven’t seen yet. So moral equivalency between those two causes from the President of the United States of America I thought was disappointing and was a disservice to our ally Israel.”

It seems to me we ought to be asking not our cherished ally Israel to make yet another concession, another step. Remember, they pulled out of Gaza and then Hamas has taken all of that over completely, necessitating military action a number of months ago. We need, and I think, the President of the United States of America standing strongly with our ally Israel would have done well to at least in the first instance call on the Palestinians and their supporters across the Arab world to begin to see real concessions within the Palestinian movement, a real effort to defang Hamas, to disarm terrorists”

Anticipating the Netanyahu / Obama Meeting on May 18

What is the attitude of U.S. leaders toward Israel? The following comments may give us a clue:

  • Vice President Biden in April - “I don’t believe Prime Minister Netanyahu would to that,” [strike Iran's nuclear facilities] “I think he would be ill advised to do that.”
  • Secretary of State Hillary Clinton - “For Israel to get the kind of strong support it’s looking for vis-a-vis Iran, it can’t stay on the sideline with respect to the Palestinians and the peace efforts…they go hand in hand.”
  • National Security Adviser James Jones - “We understand Israel’s preoccupation with Iran as an existential threat. We agree with that… By the same token, there are a lot of things that you can do to diminish that existential threat by working hard towards achieving a two-state solution.”
  • Assistant Secretary of State and America’s chief nuclear arms negotiator,Rose Gottemoeller - Calls on Israel (along with Pakistan, India, and North Korea) to sign the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty.
  • President Obama’s foreign policy strategy has been hard to read, possibly because there is no fully-formed strategy for dealing with either Iran or the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations. On the surface he appears to be attempting to win an international popularity contest. This kind of attitude cannot give warm fuzzies to Israel whose very existence is on the line.

    Obama appears to be insisting on a two-state solution to the conflict with the Palestinians while Netanyahu wants to deal with Iran’s nuclear threat first. (See my blog entry on April 5th titled - What’s the difference between a 2003 Road Map and a 2008 Annapolis Conference? ) As for how to deal with a nuclear Iran, many expect deep disagreements, the most tense between the US and Israel in the past 61 years.

    Tensions are building over the amount of time Obama is willing to give Iran to respond to his call for dialogue to halt urananium enrichment (How hard can it be to say “halt uranium enrichment now”?) Of course drawing out this process as long as possible would benefit Iran as they continue making progress on their nuclear weapons.

    So the meeting on May 18, 2009 may give us a picture of President Obama’s motivations as he may finally show his hand to Netanyahu.

    Update May 13, Netanyahu makes surprise trip to Jordan to meet Abdullah
    Abdullah has been discussing a “combined approach” with the US which requires Israel, Syria, Lebanon and other Arab nations to sit down together to try to resolve the Middle East Conflict. Abdullah has called on Netanyahu to support the Arab peace initiative, endorsed in 2002 b y the 22 members of the Arab League, which calls for Israel to return to the pre-1967 borders.
    In another related article, Abdullah’s vital role, it is said of Abdullah…”Throughout, he’s been hammering home the message - delivered with regal understatement - that Israel is to blame for the negotiating impasse with the Palestinians, and that it has maybe 18 months to submit to the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative. Everything, he says, hinges on the Obama-Netanyahu meeting. If there is “no clear American vision” - read: If Obama doesn’t lean hard on Israel - the president will lose his credibility, and the region will go up in smoke. ”
    It should be noted that Abdullah has no suggestions for what the Palestinians need to do for peace, only Israel.

    Kremlin: Battles over energy may lead to wars
    so while Russian is focused on getting hold of energy sources, which include the Middle East, the Barents Sea shelf and other Arctic regions, the Caspian and Central Asia, Obama wants to rebuild ties with Moscow by considering the cancellation of the missile defense sites in Poland and the Czech Republic. Wouldn’t this clear the way for Russia to expand their “sphere of influence?” Just asking. :)

    My Cup of Tea - - Fueling the Fire

    I’m struggling to understand why I’m considered a racist, redneck and unhealthy for protesting a big spending government at a local tea party. The response from those who opposed our protests were shocking to someone like me who hasn’t been to any protest rally since a pro life gathering in the 80’s.

    So why the big stink? Don’t they know that name calling is the beginning of racism? And don’t they know that their harsh opinions towards us and their belittling of our disgruntlements only fuel the fire in us to look for more ways to protest the path our government leaders have set us on? We will look for more ways to protest again and again and again because we know that, in our *free* country we are allowed to do so and our grievances are worthy to be heard and recognized.

    These anti tea party people should learn a lesson from our “listening” President. Just as he shook hands and exchanged pleasantries with Hugo Chavez, those who had such harsh words for our protest should embrace Obama’s “new era of partnership” and try to get along.

    How’s that “Change” working for you?

    I’ve been swamped with so many fascinating issues lately that I have been unable to post to the blog. Each of these issues, coming out at break neck speed, daily, are so difficult to come to any definitive conclusions about that I fear I am developing a short attention span. Keeping a daily list of important issues to follow has become overwhelming. I couldn’t focus on just one issue because there were so many that I found shocking and, well… gripping. For example, on March 16, Obama wanted to have veterans pay for their service-related medical issues through their own private insurance companies. Fortunately, this idea has been abandoned but why would he even *think* this would be a good thing? This is just one flip-flop case that is aiding to my short attention span as I digress from my main points.

    Many of the political exploits of the current US leaders are most definitely leading to change. Yes they can and yes they will. But what change? Capitalism and free market for socialism and Marxism? These issues require background knowledge in the writings of the founding fathers and the constitution to be able to come to an intelligent opinion and well founded conclusion.

    Course of study:

    • Ecology: Global Warming
    • Economy: Keynes vs. Free Market
    • Foreign Affairs: Focusing on the Middle East - History of Israel from 1948 to now. Cuban revolution and parrallels of Che Guavara to our current economic leaders.
    • War on Terror (oops - we’re now calling it by a shiny, happy name - Overseas Contingency Operation): Guantanamo Bay


    Check back tomorrow. This list will probably have grown by then, especially if North Korea sets off their rocket.

    We do find some comic relief with this administration which has been helpful. Like Obama’s teleprompter, now going by the endearing name of Telepromter of the United States (TOTUS), and Hillary’s “reset” button. But this relief is short lived when Geithner sends the market plunging by not thinking before he speaks or the President giving gifts of DVD’s that don’t work in Europe. We’re bored to tears by press conferences that take the place of American Idol and online Town-Hall meetings that are only saying the same old thing. My brain is twisted by remarks made on one day and then completely reversed the next.

    Speaking of American Idol… I was so excited to hear that the contestants would be singing Motown! When I was growing up in the ’60’s and 70’s we called it soul music and it was my favorite. Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross and the Temptations and even Jackson 5 were my favorite. The year I was bussed to another school for desegregation I was exposed to real life soul and I secretly wished I could sing and dance like my new friends. I have since come to the conclusion that white people are not capable of expressing soul in the same capacity and this was proven on last night’s show! So disappointing. But… I digress again LOL

    After making my list and charting a course for conquering it, I was overcome with the realization that I might be in a minority in the way I am thinking. Could it be that Americans *want* this change that Obama is bringing them? Do they really want the government to meet their every need? Are they welcoming this slavery with open arms, wrists and ankles held out for the shackles? This possibility is so sad and depressing because I know how hard our ancestors fought to be free of this same kind of tyranny in the American Revolution. The founding fathers were passionate in their hopes for this new country and laid the foundation for a nation that would encourage freedom and independence.

    So why are you throwing away that patriotic spirit and sense of individualism, America? Why do you willingly allow the toxin of socialism, Marxism and communism to seep into your soul as if you were totally blind to the consequences?

    I will keep trying. I will always fight for freedom in honor of my ancestors and for the future of my children. I will pray

    And I will find my hope in Christ alone.

    Hillary Clinton was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Secretary of State with a vote of 94-2, despite concern about foreign donations to Bill Clinton’s foundation. [This is a serious conflict of interest and there should be a watch dog overseeing and tracking this foundation’s income. ]

    Please note the concern about foreign donations to Bill Clinton. Who are these donors? Are they Middle Easterners from oil rich states who don’t like Israel? If so [and they probably are] this $900,000,000 check she just handed over to the Palestinian state from Obama could be to the Clinton’s benefit in the long run even if it’s Americans who are really giving this money [money that we don't really have btw]

    And We Are Now All Slaves

    American citizens are fast approaching slavery to their own government. What does liberty mean? Do you want to be free or do you want the government to do everything for you including think for you, decide what you should believe and not believe, how much you should weigh, how old you’re allowed to get, maybe even tell you when you can flush?
    Here are a few threats to our individual liberty:


      Nationalization of banks
      Centralized government
      Public Education System
      Universal Health Care

    Ronald Reagan said,

    “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed onto them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

    I’m not ready to be a part of the generation that Reagan speaks of! I hear Sir Winston Churchill say,

    “Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never — in nothing, great or small, large or petty — never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

    and I wonder how to never give in when we can’t seem to find a representative who *won’t* give in. In order to save ourselves from this slavery we must fight these threats and according to the following quotes by socialists and their goals for our country, we must start with education.

    John Dewey, known as “the father of modern education,” was an avowed socialist and the co-author of the “Humanist Manifesto.”

    “You can’t make socialists out of individualists. Children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society, which is coming, where everyone is interdependent.”

    Norman Thomas, a socialist and member of the American Civil Liberties Union:

    “The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened.”

    The people need to have a renewed priority for saving their individual liberty and freedom. God forbid that it would take a revolution to help them understand the value of true freedom! Our founding fathers had higher hopes for us.

    I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it
