| He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Psalm 107:29-31 |
Studying the Bible leads us to know God and His will.
Emercing ourselves daily in the Word equips us to live a better Christian
life and bear fruit. Dr. Howard A. Kelley says:
"The very best way to study the Bible is
simply to read it daily with close attention and with prayer to see the
light that shines from its pages, to mediate upon it, and to continue to
read it until somehow it works itself, its words, its expressions, its
teachings, its hbits of thought, and its presentation of God and His
Christ into the very warp and woof of one's being."

We can have joy in our Bible study time if we realize that God's Word is speaking directly to us. Isaiah 55:11 says:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
If God's Word will not return void then every time you read it there will be something especially for you that God wants you to hear. With this in mind we should begin our study with great anticipation of what He has for us each time we open our Bibles.
Try the following simple studies and see for yourself how the Holy Spirit can speak to *you*. See our article Joy in Bible Study for tips on *how* to study.

Before you begin reading, pray that the Holy Spirit will open your eyes to verses meant just for you. Consider keeping a journal to write down at least one special verse a day. Then write what it means to you and how you might be able to apply it in your life. Your journal can also be used for prayer requests and praises. In the future it will be a great blessing to be able to look back through your journal and see the how God has worked in your life.
